Resources for Chronic Pain & Mind-Body Syndrome Recovery

The modern age of the internet certainly has its drawbacks, but it’s also allowed me to learn from some incredible people in the world of chronic pain & mind-body medicine.

On this page, I aim to document the most impactful resources, teachers, practitioners and organisations that have helped me through my recovery journey.

Organisations & Therapists

SIRPA: Stress Illness Recovery Practitioners’ Association

SIRPA is a UK-based organisation developed by UK Chartered Physiotherapist, Georgie Oldfield, aimed at helping people manage & overcome various chronic pain conditions. They have some excellent free educational content for those in pain and a directory of trained therapists.

I initially worked with Rachel, an incredible Alexander Technique practitioner who helped get me started with exercises and resources to settle my nervous system.

I then worked with Liz at Lizhancock.org, an excellent psychotherapist and chronic pain practitioner who helped me delve deeper into emotional work, IFS therapy, and more.

Both recovered from various chronic symptoms, and I’m eternally grateful to them for the wisdom and experience they’ve shared with me.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy

PRT is a system of psychological techniques that retrains the brain to interpret and respond to signals from the body properly, subsequently breaking the cycle of chronic pain. They have some excellent free resources and practitioner training that I’m currently exploring.

Books

I’ll put together a blog post on some of the most impactful books I read on my healing journey, but here’s a more succinct list:

Podcasts & YouTube Channels

I’ve benefited form the educational content and recovery stories across various Podcasts and YouTube channels, including:

Meditations & Exercises

I benefitted from a wide range of mind-body meditations and somatic exercises throughout my healing journey. Here are a few that stood out:

Sez Kristiansen. Beautiful, calming poetry for sensitive souls.

Ally Boothroyd. Yoga Nidra for deep rest.

Jayne Corner. Gut-focussed hypnotherapy and CBT.

Peter Levine. Various techniques and resources focussed on healing from trauma.

Feldenkrais Access. Free lessons with one of Dr. Feldenkrais’ original students, David Zemach-Bersin. These were key in helping calm my nervous system and allowing me to re-embody.

EFT. I used the EFT tapping app regularly to help calm the nervous system and manage acute panic attacks.
